Projects

A living archive of the things I am building.

I keep everything here: the personal site reboot you are browsing, experiments I run for my newsletter, and the tools I ship with clients. Each project below started as a real need and now serves as a lab for future ideas.

Technics Turntable Alarm Clock

With a vinyl collection of 200+ pieces I couldn't find a way to wake up listening to them. So I created a one of a kind custom turntable alarm clock. I had the alarm set to 6:35.

  • Flow routes alarm events through Node-RED for weekday/weekend logic
  • Physical kill switch that still preserves quartz lock accuracy
  • Blog write-up underway with wiring diagrams and printable parts list

Home Remodel - First Floor Phase 1

We bought a multi-family house in April 2024 and moved to the second floor since there was a tenant living on the first floor. In August, he moved out and we started remodeling the house. The first step on the first floor was to sand the floor to bring it to its natural color. We used Bona NordicSeal® floor sealer, creating the look of whitewashed wood. We don't have photos of the process since I did it while Andrea was at work and she is the photographer. After completing the floor, I started sanding the wall to remove a bunch of bumps, then we began the painting process.

Home Remodel - Kitchen Phase 2

Phase 2 of our home remodel focuses on the kitchen renovation. This phase documents the full remodeling process, including design decisions, material selections, and the transformation of the space. We first removed the upper cabinets to create a more open feel, and soon after decided to take out the lower cabinets as well due to their poor condition. Once the base cabinets were removed, we discovered extensive rot in both the wood and the wall behind them, requiring a complete replacement of the affected areas. The house, built in 1924, had not been properly maintained in recent years, which contributed to the deterioration we uncovered.
